Center of Quebec | A head-on collision in Saint-Eugène-de-Grantham leaves one dead

(Saint-Eugène) A driver lost his life following a collision between two vehicles in Saint-Eugène-de-Grantham, in the Centre-du-Québec region, on Tuesday evening.

He reportedly lost control of his vehicle on Rang de l’Eglise before being hit sideways by the driver of a pick-up van traveling in the opposite direction around 4:15 p.m.

The driver of the first vehicle, a 65-year-old man from Saint-Hyacinthe, was transported to a hospital in critical condition, where he died, said Sûreté du Québec spokesperson Stéphane Tremblay.

The man driving the van, in his 50s, suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital.

The weather conditions could explain the loss of control, according to Sergeant Tremblay. He specifies that this is a portion of Route 239 where the speed is limited to 90 km/h.

The road has been closed during the investigation.
