The Netherlands wants to ban the use of mobile phones in schools from January 1, 2024. The Dutch Minister of Education deplores in particular “enormous disruptions” in classes linked to the telephone.
The mobile phone is part of their school life. Students use it almost daily in class. Experts have pointed to poor listening quality and lack of concentration as the main problems. The Netherlands wants to apply the ban on telephones at school from January 1, 2024.
“Learning efficiency decreases”
“There is growing evidence that mobile phones cause huge disruptions. They distract, and learning efficiency decreases. It’s really important to have an environment during class where everyone attention is for teaching”, explains Robbert Dijkgraaf, Dutch Minister of Education. In France, the use of a mobile phone is prohibited in classes from kindergarten to the end of middle school since the law of August 3, 2018.
