Céline snubbed by Taylor Swift: “A misstep”

The jury deliberates. Did Taylor Swift commit an blunder of titanic proportions by failing to greet, or even look at, Celine Dion when she won the Grammy for Album of the Year on Sunday evening?

On the one hand, the alleged snobbery of the current biggest star in the music world towards our diva, whom the Grammys have designated as “one of the greatest voices of all time”, is condemned without restraint and described as unacceptable lack of class.

On the other hand, we blame Swift’s attitude on the excitement of breaking the record for most Grammys for album of the year.

Without excusing her, neither Line Basbous, president of Céline’s fan club, The Red Heads, nor host Mike Gauthier, long-time observer of the Quebec artist’s career, have criticized Taylor Swift.

Ms. Basbous even saw the situation from a different perspective.

“What pride to see once again the global reaction of people who, immediately, positioned themselves as guardrails to express their love for Céline,” observes the one for whom “this little unfortunate misstep will not spoil the party.”

“It’s a misstep from Taylor,” adds Mike Gauthier, “but we must not forget that she has won album of the year four times. It had never been seen before. We have to put things into perspective.”

Immediately after this awkward moment, the two icons were photographed together backstage, surely to nip the controversy in the bud.

“Being seen alongside Taylor Swift, given that there are a bunch of her generation who don’t know Céline, it’s good for her,” concludes Mike Gauthier.
