Celine Dion thanks the author of All By Myself

On Instagram this week, Celine Dion took the time to thank singer Eric Carmen, who died on March 10, for giving her one of her “most important” songs. All By Myself.

Céline Dion writes that she learned of the news of Eric Carmen’s death “with great sadness.”

“Eric, thank you for sharing your genius with the world and giving me the chance to sing one of your most beautiful songs, All By Myself. Eric Carmen, she writes, allowed her to connect with her fans “by reaching a new level of emotion.”

Celine Dion released All By Myself on his album Falling into Youin 1996. The author of the song, Eric Carmen, had written and performed it 20 years earlier, in 1975. The American singer is also known for his song Hungry Eyes from the movie Dirty Dancing. He died in his sleep, on the night of March 9 to 10, at the age of 74.

On March 15, still on Instagram, Céline Dion spoke about her state of health, having been diagnosed with stiff person syndrome in 2022. “Trying to overcome this autoimmune disease has been one of the most difficult experiences of my life, but I remain determined to one day return to the stage and live as normal a life as possible,” she wrote .

Corrigendum
A previous version of this article stated that Eric Carmen is the composer of All By Myself, but he is instead the author. All By Myself is an adaptation of the famous Adagio sostenuto movement, from Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 2. Thanks to our reader Paul Racine for this clarification.
