His half, his reason for living, the one who allowed him to achieve his goals… When René Angélil lost his life on January 14, 2016, it was much more than a husband that Celine Dion lost but indeed the one who gave meaning to his life. Even several years after his disappearance, the singer still has not accepted his departure and will never accept it. However, she would have been “relieved” when René was leaving. This is what Élisabeth Reynaud, the biographer of the Quebec artist, confided in an interview with Gala.
With our colleagues, this one explains the reasons for this relief. The first being that Celine Dion, although her ex-husband was being treated at the family home, had the impression of living in a hospital. A medical room had been installed in their Las Vegas home and that played a big part in the morale of the singer: “She lived in this hospital atmosphere, at home, with all that entails of products of all kinds, smells of medicine, with nurses, doctors…”
A daily hell to keep the man of her life among her
The biographer assures her, the villa of Céline Dion and René Angélil had become a “real hospital”. Despite the staff present and his busy schedule, the artist still took the time to feed René. “René Angélil through a drain that was inside his abdomen. You still have to understand that for months, René was no more than an idea of a human being”, says Elisabeth Reynaud. This recalls that in the space of four years, the 54-year-old singer experienced two dramas from which she never really recovered.
“We are surprised that she has spasms, cramps, that she loses her voice, but she was devastated by these two bereavements. She locked herself in this fortress near Las Vegas, where she lives now , and she cuts herself off from everything so as not to be attacked by anything or anyone”she concluded.
