Celine Dion in great vocal form on the soundtrack of the film “To love again”

Knowing health problems for several months, which forced her to cease all her professional activities, Celine Dion appears to us rather in very good vocal form on the five new songs which are on the soundtrack of the film. Love Again (Love Again). The newspaper had the chance to listen to the album, which will be released on May 12, and which includes new songs from the singer but also several of her great career hits. What did we think of it? We present here a small dissected criticism.

Love Again: This is the first extract that was launched last month. This fairly conventional ballad was co-written by Dan Wilson, lead singer of Semisonic (Closing Time), who has also written for Adele and Taylor Swift. Céline impresses us from the outset with the very high notes she manages to reach. And we dare you not to have this song in your head for the rest of the day after listening to it.

I’ll Be: The first guitar notes, at the beginning of the piece, seem promising to us. Then, Céline arrives and gives us quite a quick “oh oh!” again very sharp. The title is co-written by collaborators from Ariana Grande, Harry Styles and Katy Perry. He does not lack spirit and, on a few occasions, we must remember that it is indeed Céline who sings, as his usual tics are not present.

Waiting on You: After a ballad and a very pop piece, we arrive with a soulful song, co-written by a collaborator of P!NK, which an Alicia Keys or a Jennifer Hudson would surely not have denied. Again, Céline hits very high notes and we realize that she can sing just about anything.

Love of my Life: The beginning of this song is undoubtedly the one that makes the most “Céline”. Simply accompanied by a piano, the singer shows everything in reserve on this beautiful ballad co-written by the Canadian Stephan Moccio (Miley Cyrus, The Weeknd). “You are the love of my life”, sings Céline, and one can already imagine the kind of scene that this song will accompany in the film.

The Gift: Have we reached a Sia album? we ask ourselves from the first seconds. Céline has never hidden her admiration for the Australian with whom she has already collaborated, in 2013, for her song Loved Me Back to Life. Here, Céline is more pop than ever and it is difficult to recognize her. The song is good and catchy, that said. We don’t really know what to think!

Our Verdict: It’s a bit of a thankless exercise to review new songs that are primarily intended for film. Without having seen the feature film in question, we can still say that Celine’s new songs will satisfy fans of the diva. Even if these titles have obviously been very well produced, they nevertheless suffer from direct comparisons with the great successes of the singer. (It’s All Coming Back to Me Now, All By Myself, Where Does My Heart Beat Now, A New Day Has Come) who all find themselves on this soundtrack and who are in a class of their own.
