She stays “determined to one day return to the stage“and to”overcome“her illness: singer Céline Dion said this on Friday in a post on Instagram. Diagnosed in the fall of 2022 with a rare neurological pathology, stiff person syndrome (SPR), the 55-year-old Quebec megastar confided than overcoming this autoimmune disease “was one of the most difficult experiences of (his) life“.
“But I remain determined to one day return to the stage and lead a life as normal as possible“, she added in the caption of a rare photo where she poses, smiling, with her three sons for International SPR Awareness Day.
“I am deeply grateful for the love and support of my children, my family, my team and all of you!“, underlined the singer. “I would like to send my encouragement and support to all those around the world who have been affected by the SPR. I want you to know that you can get through this, WE can get through this! With all my love“, she concluded.
A documentary on the singer on the horizon
The last time Celine Dion appeared in public was in early February, during a brief surprise appearance at the Grammy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles, USA, to present the album of the year to Taylor Swift. Escorted by her eldest son, the artist with more than 250 million albums sold in her 40-year career then received a standing ovation from the public.
The Quebec star has not been on stage since a concert in Newark (United States) in March 2020. His Courage World Tour was then interrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic. And since 2021, it has suffered from SPR protests.
Affecting approximately one in a million people, this syndrome causes severe pain and difficulty moving, preventing physically strenuous activities.
At the end of February, Amazon Prime Video announced the upcoming release of a documentary on the singer, I Am: Celine Dion, in which she wants “to raise awareness” about his illness.
