Céline Dion, 26 years apart from René: unpublished speech from her mother Thérèse, “he knew my way of thinking”

It is very often said that behind every man hides a woman, but the reverse is just as possible. In any case, this is what happened to Celine Dion. Behind her career and her talent was René Angélil, her manager at the time, with whom her mother had put her in contact. What Thérèse Tanguay did not know then was that he would become much more than the artistic agent of her youngest daughter. And as much to say that their 26 years of age difference did not really please her when she learned the true nature of their story.

In One day, one doc: The Celine Dion enigma broadcast on M6, images of Thérèse Tanguay, who disappeared in January 2020, have resurfaced. If until then, her reaction to learning the love story between her daughter and René was told, it is she herself who, this time, returned to this very special period for her. Daniela Lumbroso, director of a documentary on Celine Dion, says that “when she learned that there was something between Rene and Celine, she did not say anything in particular to Celine, she did not comment negatively but she took Rene between four eyes and she apparently did him his party“. Thérèse Tanguay does not deny. If she refuses to reveal the exact content of the discussion she had with her son-in-law, she implies that the exchanges were muscular: “He knew my way of thinking.”

Thérèse Tanguay would have written a letter to René Angélil in which she expressed her dissatisfaction and her opinion on their relationship. In particular, she would have let him know that she “was hoping for a prince charming” for Celine Dion. Something to worry René Angélil about the future of his relationship with the singer: “I think he was very afraid, René, of Maman Dion, because she still had a strength of character, a will. He said it himself, I’m not revealing anything by saying that, he was afraid of Maman Dion, saying to himself: ‘I hope she would agree.’ Even when their romantic relationship arrived, he said: ‘I was afraid of the reaction of Maman Dion‘”, confided Josélito Michaud, a talent agent, on a canadian radio.

Fortunately, things ended up being back to normal. Relations have calmed down. Thérèse Tanguay even confirmed “The goodwill” between her and René in the documentary. Good news for the one who married the interpreter of My heart will go on December 17, 1994…
