In the United States, more and more young divorcees are choosing to organize a divorce party, to turn the page or celebrate a new stage in their life. Some companies have even specialized in organizing these events.
At first glance, it could be a classic birthday party, at a restaurant, or a bachelorette party. It’s actually a divorce party, a new trend in the United States. On a banner, we can read: “I divorced this loser”, written in large letters. The organizer even planned gifts for each guest. “Inside there is an adult toy”and also little hangover pills, explains Chrystal Gryniuk, founder of Hissy Fête.
“Also a way to turn the page”
With her cousin, a year ago she launched a website allowing people to organize their divorce party, with personalized products. It costs $500 on average for such an event. “The idea is really to remove this shame around divorce.”, she specifies. For Christina Crenshaw, married for twelve years, this party is also a way to turn the page. “I don’t think we celebrate the divorce itself, but more the new chapter that opens for me”, explains the person concerned. A trend also visible on social networks.
