(Toronto) A line-up of Canadian musicians will visit Massey Hall next year for a tribute concert to folk legend Gordon Lightfoot.
Grammy-nominated artist Allison Russell, Guess Who frontman Burton Cummings and rocker Tom Cochrane are among the dozen names set to perform at the concert Celebrating Gordon Lightfoot on May 23.
The show will honor Lightfoot’s music and legacy at his favorite Toronto venue, featuring the band Blue Rodeo and members of Lightfoot’s longtime band.
Other artists expected to participate include folk singer Sylvia Tyson, country singer William Prince and Oji-Cree musician Aysanabee.
More names will be added before the show.
The interpreter of Sundown And If You Could Read My Mind died in May after a series of health problems. His death led to tributes around the world.
Tickets for the show go on sale Thursday on the Massey Hall website and by calling the venue’s box office.
Proceeds will benefit Massey Hall’s nonprofit revitalization fund, which also supports artist development and education.
The announcement of the concert was made on Friday, on the occasion of what would have been the 85e Lightfoot’s birthday.
