The Dynasty Gala, which highlights the cultural and media excellence of Quebecers from black communities, revealed the finalists for its eighth edition on Friday after studying a record number of applications.
This year, 673 applications were submitted, an increase of 50% compared to last year. More than a hundred applications were selected and divided into 25 categories – 12 in culture and 13 for the media. “More than ever, people from ethnocultural communities are standing out in the industry and contributing to the influence and richness of Quebec’s cultural and creative landscape,” Louise Lantagne, president and CEO of SODEC, said in a press release.
In the Multiplatform Journalist of the Year category, Marissa Groguhé, from The Presswas once again selected, winning the prize for written journalism in 2022. Meeker Guerrier, for his part, is nominated twice this year – as a radio columnist and as a TV columnist.
The pens of Émilie Nicolas, Martine St-Victor and Vanessa Destiné were also retained, as was the animation of Nicolas Ouellet, Isabelle Racicot, Philippe and Myriam Fehmiu, Alexis de Lancer, Sophie Fouron and Rebecca Makonnen, for just name a few. Let’s also highlight the presence of the TikToker Pinkydoll, selected in the Web Personality of the Year category.
On the cultural side, we find names like those of the musical artists Pierre Kwenders, Kizaba and Planet Giza, the dancer Mel Charlot, the director Miryam Charles or even the actress Fabiola Nyrva Aladin (Without an appointment, viking).
The awards ceremony will take place at Place des Arts as part of the Gala Dynastie and will be presented in two parts: the Media evening, April 21, hosted by Naadei, and the Culture evening, April 27, hosted by Garihanna Jean-Louis . Note that the Culture evening will be broadcast by Natyf TV, available online and offered to Bell subscribers.
The public has until March 31 to vote for their favorite finalist.
