Four would-be thieves will long remember their visit to Saint-Hyacinthe on Wednesday, where their attempt to get their hands on a new vehicle ended in an accident, hospital visits and legal trouble.

It all started around 6:30 p.m. when a woman noticed that a group of young adults were trying to steal her car from a parking lot on Martineau Street in Saint-Hyacinthe.
According to Marythé Bolduc, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec, the woman confronted the alleged thieves and called the police, while the latter, three men and a woman aged 19 to 30, fled on board. their own car.

Since the victim was able to see his suspects fleeing, he was able to give a good description of their vehicle to the SQ and direct the police, who quickly caught up with the suspects on Highway 20.
A chase ensued as far as Beloeil, about twenty kilometers away, where the driver of the suspect vehicle lost control of his vehicle when exiting the highway. The vehicle then swerved, ending the pursuit.

The police were able to handcuff the four occupants of the car, who were all taken to a hospital to treat injuries deemed minor.
The young adults were to be met by investigators eventually, but they face charges for vehicle theft. The driver could also face charges for dangerous driving and hit and run, said Marythé Bolduc.
