There are many Catholic influencers on social networks. Some gather a large audience, and thus hope to convert a young audience, while the number of practitioners is decreasing.
We call them “Catholic influencers”. These stars in cassocks preach the good word on TikTok and Instagram. Brother Paul-Adrien, alias Dr Love, is the rising star of these new missionaries. “In my head, I didn’t put myself on the Internet to be an influencer. In my head, I remain the good old monk, and I was a preaching monk”, specifies the person concerned. This Dominican priest believes that this type of content “puts religion back into people’s daily lives”.
A shift that the Church views favorably
The Church also sees it as a way to bring together lost sheep, while the number of practitioners is decreasing. Nina has just converted, while Clémence has always been Catholic. “I find it fun, rather than opening a catechism and looking for answers to questions”, explains the second. The Church views this digital shift favorably, provided that these influencers stick to the official line.
