Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas were married on November 18, 2000 at the hotel Plaza, in New York, two years after their very first meeting. Michael had fallen for his future wife while watching the film The Mask of Zorroreleased in October 1998.
“I was watching this movie and I was like, ‘Wow! Who is this girl ? She is magnificent’. A month later, I am at the Deauville American Film Festival to promote the film Perfect Murder with Viggo Mortensen and Gwyneth Paltrow. And watching the program, I saw that they would project Zorro the next day ! I asked my assistant if she could find out if Catherine Zeta-Jones would be there, if she had come alone and if I could have a drink with her“, recalled Michael Douglas on the occasion of their 20 years of marriage. Catherine Zeta-Jones was then passing through Deauville, for one night only. Michael and she had their first drink with Antonio Banderas, the hero of the movie The Mask of Zorroand his then-wife Melanie Griffith.
Recently interviewed by Gala on the longevity of their romance, Catherine Zeta-Jones had revealed: “Every marriage has these ups and downs. The reverse would still be very strange. Corn when you are an object of public curiosity, your relationship escapes you a little.“
