“A roundtable has done rigorous work over the past six months. We analyzed all possible avenues and avenues, ”she explained.

“There are several signs that deer are suffering from malnutrition. They began to eat buckthorn which is an invasive alien species that is not part of the regular diet of white-tailed deer. We also note an increase in roadside accidents with deer. ”

Mme Fournier, moreover, ruled out the scenario of moving the deer to another territory, because of the stress exerted on these animals which can, according to her, lead to paralysis and even death.

The other reason that justifies the slaughter is Lyme disease, which is very present and which we do not want to be transmitted to other regions of Quebec.

Disapproving messages

In addition, Catherine Fournier indicated that she had already received disapproving messages following the announcement of the deer slaughter.

The police ensure that the excesses of the past are not repeated.

“When it goes beyond the limits, you have to report them. Given the death threats issued in the past, the Longueuil police will monitor the situation, ”said Mr.me Fournier.
