Bourges Cathedral will open its doors to the American singer Cat Power, for a tribute concert to Bob Dylan, as part of the Printemps de Bourges festival, from April 24 to 28, 2024. This is the logical continuation of the recent publication of his album Cat Power Sings Dylan: The 1966 Royal Albert Hall Concert. Recorded on November 5, 2022 at the Royal Albert Hall in London, this live performance captured Cat Power recreating, song by song, one of Bob Dylan’s legendary concerts.

Mythical concert

Provoking the ire of early fans in the room, Bob Dylan switched from acoustic to electric in the middle of this show at the Manchester Free Trade Hall in May 1966, long known as “Royal Albert Hall Concert” due to a poorly documented pirate recording. “More than any other songwriter’s work, Dylan’s songs spoke to me and inspired me from the moment I started listening to them at the age of five.”confides Chan Marshall, who hides behind the alias Cat Power, in the intention notes for his record.

Another meeting of the Printemps de Bourges, “Personal Messages” will see artists take up the repertoire of Françoise Hardy, all orchestrated by Sage, who is also sound architect for others (Woodkid, Laurent Voulzy or even Eddy de Pretto) . This will be Act II of this creation, after a first part with a different casting at the Hyper Weekend Festival from January 26 to 28 at Radio France, in Paris.

Before the revelation of these two event shows, Printemps had already unveiled its more classic programming, with headliners such as Mika, Zaho de Sagazan, Hoshi, PLK, Niska and Shaka Ponk.

The Printemps de Bourges has attracted more than 200,000 festival-goers in recent years, a count including paid festival entries and free events in town.
