Casino supermarkets are launching a new hard discount concept. To offer unbeatable prices, it is the customer who scans his articles himself. Guided tour in preview in Normanville, in the Eure.
In Normanville (Eure), a new kind of supermarket was born a few weeks ago. Customers come for the very attractive prices. “If I have it for 100 euros in a supermarket, here I have it for 70 euros“, believes a customer. The bill drops even more for purchases made in large quantities, which benefits restaurateurs.
On the shelves, the customer must scan his articles himself. The store employs no cashier, only an employee directs buyers. Shunned for several years by consumers, hard discount had gone upmarket. For Karine Sanouillet, consumer expert, the economic context has however changed with the war in Ukraine, and the return of inflation. “We can bet that we will see initiatives taking up these very low-cost mechanics“, she thinks. Still in the test phase, the store is currently the only one in France.
