For the second time this week, the Canucks surprised the Oilers, this time with a 4-3 victory.
Goaltender Casey DeSmith was relentless in front of the Canucks net, with a brilliant performance of 38 saves, including 15 in the third period.
The former Penguins got the start since Thatcher Demko is still bothered by a virus.
The match started well for the Oilers, as Leon Drasaitl opened the scoring after just 42 seconds. The Canucks got back into the game with goals from Andrei Kuzmenko and Nils Hoglander.
Connor McDavid hit the target for the first time of the year in the 2nd period during a power play. The Oilers captain finished the game with two points. His teammate Ryan Nugent-Hopkins was better with three (1 goal, 2 assists).
It was ultimately Sam Lafferty who gave the Canucks victory in the third period with his first goal in a new uniform.
Two minutes too long for the Sharks
Despite 51 saves from Mackenzie Blackwood, the Sharks lost 2 to 1 against the Avalanche in a shootout.
Thomas Bordeleau scored his first career goal during the initial engagement.
Blackwood held the fort as long as possible for the Sharks, but the Avanlache tied the game with 1:26 left in the game when Cale Makar’s shot found a hole.
Mikko Rantanen was the only scorer in the shootout.
In the Sharks’ loss, Mike Hoffman collected his first point of the season, while Marc-Edouard Vlasic left the game due to an injury.
For the Avalanche, Drouin fired a shot on goal in 15:23 of ice time.
The Hurricanes are playing with fire
They scored the first three goals of the match, but ultimately needed the shootout to win. The Hurricanes played with fire in a 6-5 win over the Kings.
Leading 3 to 0 after 14 minutes of play, the Hurricanes took their foot off the accelerator to see the Kings come back into the game.
Anze Kopitar sent everyone into overtime when he completed a brilliant pass from Carl Grundstrom with 1:22 left in the game.
The shootout required nine players per team and it was ultimately Jordan Martinook who settled the debate.
In the victory, Jesperi Kotkaniemi scored his first goal of the season.
The Golden Knights too strong for the Ducks
The Golden Knights signed their third victory in as many games thanks to a 4-1 victory against the Ducks.
Vegas dominated the match from start to finish. Jack Eichel scored a spectacular goal late in the first period with just one second remaining. The American beat all the Ducks players before scoring his second goal of the season. See below.
The Golden Knights then increased their lead with goals from Chandler Stephenson and Shea Theodore. Mason McTavish scored the Ducks’ only goal early in the third period.
Jonas Rondbjerg completed the scoring for Vegas with less than three minutes to play. In net, Adin Hill blocked 22 of the 23 shots he faced.
