Cartoonist Jean-Paul Eid wins the ACBD Critics’ Prize

Already winner in 2016 for The woman with the postcards, cartoonist Jean-Paul Eid is once again honored by the Association of Comic Strip Critics and Journalists, which has just awarded its 2021 Critics’ Prize to his album The little astronaut.

The little astronaut stood out in front Khîem, maternal lands, by Yasmine and Djibril Phan Morissette, Free time by Melanie Leclerc and You destroyed the beauty of the world, by Christian Quesnel, Isabelle Perreault, André Cellard and Patrice Corriveau, the three other finalist comics submitted to the vote of the active members of the ACBD. The choice of voters was made among all the comic strips produced by Quebec authors between 1er July 2020 and June 30, 2021.

Drawing inspiration from his experience, Jean-Paul Eid recounts the daily life of young Tom, a boy living with severe cerebral palsy which prevents him from walking and talking. Narrated by his older sister Juliette, the story tells us in a sincere and intimate way of the challenges and joys felt during family life.

According to the ABCD press release, The little astronaut is a “true ode to difference”, the work remaining “always touching, never tearful”, demonstrating “in a beautiful way the great mastery of the medium of its author”.

The Association of Comic Strip Critics and Journalists, which has 96 journalists and critics who regularly talk about comics in the regional and national written, audiovisual and digital press, has the mission of supporting and highlighting comics published in Quebec. in French.
