One of the consequences of the war in Ukraine is the possible rise in energy prices, as for oil. This is of increasing concern to motor carriers. Some fear not being able to continue their activity, like a family business established in the North.

In a family transport business located in the North, fuel prices are a concern. In one year, the manager deplores an increase of 40 cents per liter of diesel, essential to run her trucks. “We have an increase of 400,000 euros more over the year, which represents between 25% and 35% of our turnover”says the manager.

To save money, the routes of the 35 drivers are meticulously prepared. They sometimes avoid tolls and prefer the cheapest gas stations on their route. It could be difficult to hold on for the company if the price spike continues. The Motor Carriers Federation is urging the government to intervene as much as possible to protect businesses. “The government must intervene by lowering taxes on fuel so as to allow companies to absorb the increase in the raw material, diesel”wishes Olivier Arrigault, secretary general of the Federation of Road Carriers of the North.
