Passed between the drops of the first days of Wimbledon, the big seeds were on the courts, Friday July 7, on the occasion of the fifth day.
Alcaraz and Sabalenka bring down the tricolors
Opposed to Alexandre Muller, Carlos Alcaraz (n°1) did not go into detail to reach the third round. Much more in danger, Aryna Sabalenka (n°2) even trembled against Varvara Gracheva, losing the first round, before regaining the upper hand to win. Among the outsiders, Alexander Zverev (n°19) and Holger Rune (n°6) pass a new round, as well as Hubert Hurkacz (n°19) who dismissed Lorenzo Musetti (n°14). In a superb duel, Stefanos Tsitsipas (n°5) took out Andy Murray in five sets.
The other local of the tournament, Cameron Norrie (n°12) also lost against Christopher Eubanks. Imperial, Petra Kvitova (n°9) largely overpowered Aliaksandra Sasnovich. Little surprise on court number 12, with the victory of Victoria Azarenka (n°19) against Daria Kasatkina (n°11) in the third round. For his part, Ons Jabeur (n°6) easily qualified against Zhuoxuan Bai, as did Elina Svitolina who dismissed Sofia Kenin.
Hecatomb among the French
Resuming a match interrupted last night, Adrian Mannarino could not turn the tide against Daniil Medvedev (No. 3) and logically lost. It’s also over for Quentin Halys. Despite winning the first round, he could not prevent Jannik Sinner (n°8) from moving on to the round of 16. At the end of the day, Caroline Garcia (n°5) will be opposed to Marie Bouzkova (n°32) on court number 3.
