Carla Bruni has been summoned by an investigating judge in Paris on Tuesday, July 9, with a view to a possible indictment, franceinfo learned from a source close to the case. Nicolas Sarkozy’s wife is implicated in the judicial investigation into the conditions of Ziad Takieddine’s retraction.
Ziad Takieddine accused Nicolas Sarkozy of financing his 2007 presidential campaign with Libyan funds. He finally retracted his statement in 2020 before going back on his remarks once again. A judicial investigation was opened in May 2021 for “witness tampering”, “criminal conspiracy to commit the crime of organized fraud” and “fraud to commit the crime of bribery of foreign judicial personnel”. In early October 2023, Nicolas Sarkozy was indicted in this case. He disputes the facts alleged.
Carla Bruni was questioned for five hours on May 2 in a voluntary hearing at the premises of the Central Office for the Fight against Corruption and Financial and Fiscal Offenses (OCLCIFF), as a defendant in the judicial investigation relating to the conditions of the Ziad Takieddine’s retraction.
