Tragic carnival in Belgium. A car drove into a crowd attending a carnival on Sunday March 20 in the Belgian town of La Louvière, killing four people and seriously injuring 12 others, the mayor said. “A speeding car slammed into the crowd that had gathered to watch (the carnival)”Jacques Gobert, the mayor of this city in southern Belgium, told the Belga press agency.
Belgian Interior Minister Annelies Verlinden offered her condolences to the families and friends of those killed. “What was supposed to be a friendly party turned into a tragedy. We are monitoring the situation closely”, she said on Twitter. The reasons for the tragedy are unknown at this time.
