Car and SUV Ads | An environmental group denounces Radio-Canada

Radio-Canada was accused of suffering from “Climate Incoherence Syndrome” by a group of activists on Friday. Five activists tried to enter its offices of the state-owned company to “quarantine” the employees. An act of civil disobedience… satirical.

Seeing the five activists from the environmental group called the Ministry of the New Normal (MNN), it looked like they were going to a red zone of a hospital infected with COVID-19. Not at Radio-Canada.

Masks, gloves, protective suits: the activists tried to enter the head office of Radio-Canada on Friday afternoon. They then set up a security perimeter in front of the entrance with yellow warning tape. Their goal: to draw attention to the inconsistency between the Canadian broadcast company’s car and SUV advertisements, and its environmentalist positions.

The operation lasted about 20 minutes. The activists failed to enter the offices before the security service intervened. The action did not lead to any arrests.

They “presented themselves to the head office of Radio-Canada, to diagnose an outbreak of an alarming new disease: the Climatic Inconsistency Syndrome (SIC)”, the group said in a press release on Friday.

“Canada is committed to reducing its GHG emissions by at least 40% by 2030. It is therefore alarming that its news outlet, Radio-Canada, continues to send an inconsistent message promoting purchase of gas-guzzling vehicles, ”explained activist Hélène Touze, the MNN’s self-proclaimed deputy minister of technological policies, in a press release.
