CAQ health plan | “The elephant gave birth to a mouse”, according to Anglade

(Québec) The health plan of the Coalition avenir Québec (CAQ) is only a copy and paste of its 2018 electoral platform, believes Liberal leader Dominique Anglade.

It is an admission of failure, she declared Thursday in a press briefing at the National Assembly. The health plan that Minister Christian Dubé is supposed to present next week was leaked to Radio-Canada.

It plans to change the method of remunerating family physicians and eliminate mandatory overtime. Better meals would be offered to seniors in CHSLDs.

The Minister would also propose to recruit nurses from abroad and to offer consultation with a health professional for all, as soon as the need arises, but not necessarily with a doctor.

“When we take note of the 50 measures that are presented, we see one thing: the elephant gave birth to a mouse, and in addition, no targets, no objectives”, reacted Mme England.

She recalls that in terms of health, “all the lights are red”. More than a million Quebecers are waiting for a family doctor and 160,000 Quebecers are waiting for their surgery, she pointed out.

The wait in the emergency room continues to increase, added Mme England.

For its part, Québec solidaire (QS) said it was disappointed on Thursday that it was proposed to better regulate private placement agencies.

“We are being told, after having told us: “It is appalling, we have to put an end to this”, we are going to keep them and we are going to normalize their situation”, lamented Vincent Marissal.

The leader of the Parti Québécois (PQ), Paul St-Pierre Plamondon, declared that the health plan of Christian Dubé illustrates above all that “nothing happened for four years”.

“It looked like it was a government that didn’t look into all these issues,” he said.
