Alex Ovechkin extended his game streak with at least one point to six to score his sixth and seventh goals of the season for the Capitals.

Nick Jensen and John Carlson completed the scoring for the Washington roster, which saw Ilya Samsonov block 32 shots.

Drake Batherson led the charge for the Senators with a first NHL hat trick. Chris Tierney and Josh Norris made the red light twinkle once each.

Anton Forsberg started the game for the Senators, but was kicked out of the net after allowing four goals on 16 shots. In relief, Filip Gustavsson allowed three goals on 15 shots.

As his team trailed 6-4 at the start of the third period, Batherson reduced the lead to 6:32. Ovechkin, however, gave his side a two-goal priority to put the game out of reach.

It was the Capitals’ first away game against a Canadian club since February 27, 2020.
