Capitals: Joel Edmundson is up for trade

Washington Capitals defenseman Joel Edmundson can prepare for a trade as his team reportedly attempts to trade him by March 8, the last day for trades in the National Hockey League.

This was stated by Sportsnet hockey expert Elliotte Friedman in his most recent column “32 Thoughts”.

Former player of the Montreal Canadiens, Edmundson has been bothered by injuries – including back pain – in recent years. In his first campaign with the “Caps”, he recorded three points in 32 games, while maintaining a differential of -3. Star forward Alexander Ovechkin’s club risks losing some assets if it falls outside of a playoff spot. Washington ranks 12th in the Eastern Conference with 51 points.

Coming back to the 30-year-old Manitoban, he is in the final year of a four-year, $14 million contract. His pact includes a partial no-trade clause regarding 10 teams.
