Capital gains | Quebec imitates Ottawa and raises taxes

(Quebec) Quebec is following in Ottawa’s footsteps and increasing the tax on capital gains, which will bring it three billion dollars in five years according to its estimates.


The Minister of Finance, Eric Girard, confirmed this in a press release Thursday afternoon.

“The government announces that it will adjust the Quebec tax system to harmonize it with certain measures proposed in the federal budget of April 16, 2024, including the increase in the cumulative exemption for capital gains, the establishment of the incentive for Canadian entrepreneurs, the increase in the capital gains inclusion rate as well as the increase in the withdrawal limit from the home ownership plan and the temporary relief of the amounts to be reimbursed under this plan. »

He promised Wednesday to give a quick response on the subject.

The Press had reported that discussions underway in Quebec as soon as the federal budget was tabled on Tuesday.
