Canucks acquire Avalanche defenseman Erik Brannstrom

The Vancouver Canucks have traded defenseman Tucker Poolman and a fourth-round pick in the 2025 draft to the Colorado Avalanche for defenseman Erik Brannstrom.


Brannstrom, 25, spent the last six years with the Ottawa Senators before signing a one-year contract worth US$900,000 with the Avalanche in July.

Standing five-foot-10 and weighing 185 pounds, Brannstrom has three goals and 17 assists in 76 games with the Senators in 2023-24.

Brannstrom was selected by the Vegas Golden Knights in the 15the rank, during the 2017 draft. The Swede had seven goals and 67 assists in 266 games in the NHL.

For his part, Poolman has not played in the NHL since October 18, 2023. with the Canucks. He was sidelined with a head injury.

The 31-year-old defenseman is expected to miss the 2024-25 season due to injury, according to a press release issued by the Avalanche. The Canucks retain 20% of Poolman’s salary.
