At Cannes (Alpes-Maritimes)the Croisette is preparing to celebrate the 75th anniversary of its festival, forget the epidemic, rediscover the red carpet, its atmosphere and the celebration of planetary cinema. It will be held from May 17 to 28. This is how the Cannes Film Festival became cult.

September 20, 1946, a seaplane lands in the bay of Cannes: Hollywood has sent its stars to this city which will become the capital of international cinema. For 75 years, the ritual has been repeated: a red carpet, photographers, stars, the Riviera s’ignite and, in the dark rooms, make way for projections. The first editions take place in the immediate post-war period, so glamor is needed. The cinema creates the star, Cannes must welcome it with great fanfare. But makeup-hair does not sum up canes becauseto build a myth, you need a scent of scandal. Offended cries often resounded in the palace after the screening of films deemed to be in bad taste.

But if these filmmakers are scandalous, in the eyes of some, often their films are ahead of society. “It’s not scandal for scandal’s sake, it’s the scandal of ideas too far ahead of their time, perhaps Cannes has been able to capture”, judge Carlos Gomez, film journalist Gala. Current events are also often invited to the Croisette, as in 1968 when the festival ended up being canceled. In 2018, MeToo invited himself to Cannes. 82 stars climbed the steps and declared their desire for change. “In its history, the festival has always witnessed the upheavals of the world”. This year, the spirits will be especially turned towards Ukraine.
