Cannes Film Festival | Rodrigo Sorogoyen heads the Critics’ Week jury

(Cannes) Spanish filmmaker Rodrigo Sorogoyen will serve as president of the jury for Critics’ Week, one of the parallel selections at the Cannes Film Festival, the organizers announced on Friday.


At 42, Rodrigo Sorogoyen is one of the figures of the revival of Spanish cinema. He has been noted in recent years for his black cinema, What do we say about Perdone? has El Reinowhich earned him the Goya for best director, the Spanish equivalent of the Césars, in 2019.

A wider French audience discovered him with his latest film, As Bestasa thriller shot in Galicia which starred two French actors, Denis Ménochet and Marina Foïs.

Founded in 1962, Critics’ Week is one of the main parallel selections at the Cannes Film Festival, dedicated to the discovery of new talents and programming first or second films.

The list of 11 feature films selected this year must be revealed on April 15.

As for the official selection of the Cannes Film Festival, the list of films from this 77e edition must be revealed Thursday April 11. The competition jury will be chaired by the director of barbieGreta Gerwig, and that of the Un Certain Regard section by Quebecer Xavier Dolan.
