Cannes Film Festival: Carole Bouquet passionately kisses Vincent Lindon live from the ceremony!

For its 75th edition, the Cannes Film Festival made the hearts of moviegoers around the world beat faster for two weeks. Mistress of ceremonies, Virginie Efira closed the fortnight in style, as she opened it with panache on May 17th. The Belgian actress took over this task from Doria Tillier, while the jury is chaired this year by Vincent Lindon who takes over from Spike Lee. The French actor was surrounded in this mission by the Anglo-American Rebecca Hall (Vicky Cristina Barcelona), the Italian Jasmine Trinca (The Son’s Room), Swedish Noomi Rapace (Millennium), Indian Deepika Padukone (Om Shanti Om), as well as directors Jeff Nichols, Asghar Farhadi, Ladj Ly and Joachim Trier.

In a tuxedo dress, the mistress of ceremonies Virginie Efira once again proclaimed her love for the 7th art. Alongside director Maïmouna Doucouré, filmmaker Yousry Nasrallah presented the special mention of the short film to Yori Then Palme d’or for short film The Water Murmurs from the Chinese Story Chen.

Rossy de Palma, sculptural in her extravagant carmine red dress, presented the jury prize she presides over, that of Gold camera. The special mention goes to Map 75 by Hayakawa Chie. The Spanish star then awarded with “a huge pleasure” the gold camera at war pony of Gina Gammell and Riley Keough, granddaughter of Elvis Presley. The co-director notably paid tribute to the mother of one of the actors, who died today and who was so proud of her child.

The impeccable Virginie Efira then announced the jury of the official selection in the running for the Palme d’Or, a glamorous arrival marked however by the “almost” fall of Jasmine Trinca who recovered well. Vincent Lindon, stressed about giving the prizes and sad to see the fortnight coming to an end, declared: “JI liked everything, the people, the movies, the devastating electricity in the streets.” He then transforms his speech into a pastiche of political speech, the effect of the French presidential election which ended recently.

To put back the best actress awardit was Guillaume Canet who was chosen, while Noomi Rapace announced her name: Iranian Zar Amir Ebrahimi for The Nights of Mashhad / Holy Spider.Thank you France for giving me your joy, your love“, she concluded, welcoming in particular her “sister” Golshifteh Farahani. The Venezuelan actor Edgar Ramirez then went on stage for the screenplay price unveiled by Deepika Padukone Tarik Saleh for Boy from Heaven.

Diane Kruger came to bring the Best Actor Award. The partner of Norman Reedus, with whom she climbed the steps, came on stage in her impressive dress to crown Song Kang Ho, hero of Lucky stars / Broker by Hirokazu Kore-eda who previously starred in Parasite, Palme d’or 2019. The Rohrwacher sisters, Alba and Alice, arrived to give the jury prize ex-aequo to EO – Hi-Han by Jerzy Skolimowski as well as the Eight Mountains by Felix Van Groeningen and Charlotte Vandermeersch. The latter passionately kissed her co-director who is also her companion.

The Mexican filmmaker Alfonso Cuaron is the last presenter, responsible for bringing the Palme d’Or that the president reveals. She returns to Triangle of Sadness by Ruben Ostlund, to whom we also owe Snow Therapy and The Square.
