Only two days left before the closing of the 75th Cannes Film Festival. A very special edition after two years of slowdown or even total cessation of cinema due to the global Covid-19 pandemic. For this 2022 vintage, Thierry Frémaux and Pierre Lescure have made the event a magical event by inviting all the greatest actors and filmmakers of the 7th art. Among them, Isabelle Adjani. The star of the big screen climbed the steps on May 22 – also for the Dior brand – for the screening of The Almond Trees, dramatic comedy by Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi. An exercise that she had to repeat this Friday, May 27, but that she will unfortunately not have the opportunity to start again.
Isabelle Adjani is on the bill of Masquerade, comedy by Nicolas Bedos presented out of competition in the evening. Nicolas Bedos, Pierre Niney, Marine Vacth and François Cluzet should be present to walk the red carpet but they will unfortunately do without Isabelle Adjani. According to Nice Matin, to whom she granted an interview for the presentation of the film in Cannes, the actress suffers from ophthalmic shingles, preventing her from living this climb of the steps, alongside the others.
However, she was happy to parade arm in arm with Nicolas Bedos and the rest of the family of Masquerade : “Mascarade is a genre comedy, a choral film, with an energy that resembles the cinema that Nicolas Bedos likes, full of life. It’s not a film to defend, it’s a film that invites us to go out with it, for a playful date.“Isabelle Adjani must blame herself for not being able to accompany them… the film crew is in shock and finds it difficult to understand.
While playing the role of Martha, a fading star superbly scripted by Nicolas Bedos, she is betrayed by those around her and broken by her young rival, a beautiful tigress she explains to Nice Matin, played by the superb Marine Vacth.
But health is more important than the rest, which does not prevent her from having a quick note for those with whom she has played for months: “I wish them great success.” And it’s off to a good start! As a reminder, Nicolas Bedos’ last three films, Masquerade, and The good times and OSS 117: Red alert in black Africa were also selected out of competition at the two previous Cannes Film Festivals. An honor that speaks for itself…
