She has been playing increasingly important roles for several years, but this one should clearly propel her into the (very) big leagues: Anne Hathaway was on the Cannes red carpet this Thursday, May 19, 2022 for the first public screening of her next movie, Armageddon Time. Taking place in Queens, this one is inspired by the childhood of the director, James Gray, who after having made the 400 blows as a teenager, was sent to a school run by the Trump family.
And we can say that in terms of looks, the actress spotted in Princess against her had pulled out all the stops for its first appearance on the Croisette! Dressed in an immaculate white strapless dress and an XXL necklace, she took advantage of the red carpet for long minutes. Radiant and extremely smiling, she posed and greeted the photographers, surely happy to be in Cannes in a film in competition.
Without tripping over the train with which her dress was equipped, the actress crossed the steps, leaning on her two young teenage partners Jaylin Webb and Michael Banks Repeta, delighted to be living their first Cannes Film Festival and who had dressed their best costumes. At 13, the latter played the main role of the film, that of James Gray as a child.
Despite his young age, the American teenager is not really at his first attempt in front of a camera: he had played in the series Manhunt, The Outsider or Lovecraft County. But this time, the challenge is much greater, which seems to delight him, given his smile on the arm of his partner and the director.
Nearly 500 children cast for the main role
This one, very relaxed, explained on the red carpet that he was delighted to be there and much more relaxed than in 2013, during his last appearance. “Maybe that means it’s a disaster but too bad“, he presented. Denying the fact that the film is an exact replica of his life, he explained that as a director, “we borrow the things of our life but everything becomes better with great actors“.
He also explained that he cast “nearly 500 little boys to find the young man“, very impressive it must be said, who could star in his film. With them, Jeremy Strong completed this magnificent red carpet. A great actor, he plays Anne Hathaway’s husband (and the father of the little boy) in Armageddon Time.
If he is less popular than his partner, this one nevertheless sees his talent more and more rewarded with in particular his grandiose role in the series Succession, for which he won a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Drama Series. Smiling, he explained that he was “delighted to be in Cannes“, where he had never been either.
The film, with its touching pitch and powerful cast, promises to be one of the successes of the festival. On the other hand, no date has been scheduled for a release in France for the moment. But there is no doubt that Julia Roberts, present and radiant, model Cindy Bruna and former jury member Aishwarya Rai enjoyed their session. Vincent Elbaz, Joséphine Japy and Daniela Lumbroso also made the trip, as did Alessandra Ambrosio and the members of the jury Vincent Lindon and Joachim Trier.
