In a message posted on Twitter on Monday, Mayor Valérie Plante revealed that the organization Fierté Montréal, which coordinates the parade, “has accepted that an independent investigation will shed light on the cancellation of the parade and issue recommendations to ensure the success of future editions.

Valérie Plante also said she was “very satisfied” with a meeting organized with representatives of Pride Montreal, adding that she had the “full collaboration” of her board of directors. This meeting would have taken place in the evening, Monday.

A spokesperson for the mayoress, Catherine Cadotte, specified that this request for the holding of an independent investigation was submitted by Ms.me Plante after learning that Montreal Pride only planned to perform a simple internal review of events.

The objective of the investigation will be to determine how we came to cancel the parade. According to the most recent version of the organizers, it was a lack of personnel that ultimately forced the cancellation for fear of not being able to ensure the security of the event.

Montreal had provided a grant of $600,000 for the organization of the entire program of Pride Montreal, from 1er to August 7, which included shows and various activities.

Catherine Cadotte mentions that the City did not ask for a refund since she still considers that the entire festival was a success despite the cancellation of the emblematic parade. However, the investigation is necessary in order to restore the bond of trust between Montreal and the organizers of the event.
