The prud’hommes condemn Canal+ for the “dismissal without real and serious cause” of his former star commentator Stéphane Guy, in December 2020. The latter will appeal the judgment in order to obtain the cancellation of his dismissal, announced Tuesday September 13 his lawyer to AFP, confirming information from The Team.
The encrypted channel was ordered to pay him just over 260,000 euros in damages which will not be paid before the decision on appeal, sAccording to a copy of the judgment of the Paris industrial tribunal, pronounced on August 29 and consulted by AFP.
Stéphane Guy had learned of his dismissal after 23 years at Canal +, for having supported comedian Sébastien Thoen, himself fired for a parody targeting CNews, the group’s news channel. The commentator had paid tribute on the air to his “friend” who, according to him, had not had “the exit he would have deserved”. Remarks “offending” because aimed at “disparage publicly” his employer, according to Canal+, cited in the judgment.
According to industrial tribunal, “the reasons given for the dismissal do not appear to be serious enough”but “attack on freedom of expression” invoked by Stéphane Guy, supposed to lead to the nullity of his dismissal, has not been demonstrated. The journalist, who is demanding his reinstatement at Canal+, is not “not disappointed but partially satisfied”his lawyer, Olivier Khatchikian, told AFP. Asked by AFP, Canal + did not wish to comment.
