Canadians will not be fooled by Russian propaganda, says Justin Trudeau

(Ottawa) Justin Trudeau believes Canadians are too smart to be fooled by Russian propaganda regarding the war in Ukraine.

The Prime Minister was invited Friday to comment on the recent interview given by Russian President Vladimir Putin to American host Tucker Carlson.

During this interview, Mr. Putin mocks the Ukrainian president by recalling that Volodomyr Zelensky, during his visit to the Canadian Parliament, attended a tribute attended by a Ukrainian veteran who had had links with the Nazis.

Canada made headlines around the world last September for accidentally inviting Yaroslav Hunka, who had fought in his country as an SS unit during the Second World War, to Parliament.

Mr. Putin explained to Tucker Carlson that he had invaded Ukraine to fight “neo-Nazis” – an argument that Western countries have described as propaganda.

Mr. Trudeau said Friday that President Putin was ready to use “all the propaganda possible” to try to justify his invasion of Ukraine, which began almost two years ago.

“But I can tell you that Canadians will not be fooled,” the Prime Minister said at a press conference in King City, Ontario.

“Canada stands with Ukraine, not only because we are friends with Ukraine, but also because the rules-based order, the system of laws and the Charter of the United Nations protect us all, not just Ukrainians. »
