Canadian writer Joan Clark dies at 88

(Halifax) Joan Clark, renowned Canadian writer and member of the Order of Canada, died at the age of 88.


Mme Clark has authored over 15 books for adults and children, including An Audience of Chairs, Latitudes of Mel And The Dream Carvers.

At least three of his novels have been translated into French: The White Girl ; The Hand of Robin Squires: The Mystery of Oak IslandAnd The Dream Sculptors.

Born in 1934 in Liverpool, Nova Scotia, Ms.me Clark lived for a time in New Brunswick and Alberta before moving to St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador.

She has received multiple awards for her writing and was awarded the Order of Canada in 2010.

According to the publishing house Penguin Random House Canada, Mme Clark was a central figure in the Canadian literary scene and his passing will affect all who share his love of discovery.

WritersNL, formerly known as the Writers’Alliance of Newfoundland and Labrador, expressed sadness as Mme Clark was a longtime member of the band.

We will “eternally cherish his creativity, his energy and his contribution to literature,” both in the province and in the country as a whole, the organization said.
