Canadian women reach 9th place in FIFA rankings

Canada somehow had the last word against the United States in women’s soccer — despite losing to the North American rival in a shootout in the Gold Cup semifinals.

The Canadians, outscoring 14-0 in total goals in four matches in the tournament heading into the semi-final, moved up one place in the FIFA rankings to ninth.

Victorious 1-0 against Brazil in the final, the Americans still slipped two places due to a loss against Mexico in the group stage, finding themselves fourth.

The Mexicans jumped four places, reaching 31e position.

The top 3 is made up of Spain, England and France, in that order.
