Canadian captain Marie-Philip Poulin, already a passer on the opener, then carried her team to the gold medal by scoring two precious goals to protect Canada from an American comeback.
The Americans took advantage of a numerical superiority to revive thanks to a goal from Hilary Knight before pushing in the last period to come back level with the Canadians.
