Canadian woman murdered in Mexico, her boyfriend arrested

A British Columbian vacationing in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, has been murdered in the past week, while her boyfriend has been arrested.

The police explained, in a statement relayed by the Riviera Maya News site, to have discovered the lifeless body, in a hotel of the Princess Hotel group, of a Canadian who showed signs of violence.

The police arrested a suspect on the spot, identified as “Ryan N.”, a 26-year-old Canadian.

“He had bloodstains on his clothes and had swollen hands, and next to him was a woman laying face down on the floor with visible wounds and blood,” police said.

Authorities have not released the victim’s name or connection to the accused, but Energetic City, which covers local news in northern British Columbia, identified the woman as Kiara Agnew, a citizen of Dawson Creek.

A crowdfunding campaign has been posted on the GoFundMe site by relatives to help raise funds to pay for the repatriation of Kiara’s body.

“What was supposed to be a dream trip for her birthday party in Mexico with her boyfriend turned into a nightmare on March 3, 2023 when our family was notified of her death, at the hands of someone she loved and who s ‘turned out to be a monster,’ the family described.

Lake View Credit Union, where Ms. Agnew worked, also mourned her death.

“This is a devastating tragedy and a loss for our community. We send all our love and faith to all those affected,” the financial institution posted on its Facebook page.
