Canadian Gabriela Dabrowski won her first major Grand Slam title in women’s doubles on Sunday afternoon as she won the US Open alongside New Zealand’s Erin Routliffe.
The two players defeated Laura Siegemund and Vera Zvonareva in two sets of 7-6 (9), 6-3 in a final that lasted 2 hours 15 minutes on Sunday at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
The big winners succeeded in 73% of their first service attempts. In addition, they recorded two aces compared to none for their opponents.
Dabrowski and Routliffe took a 3-0 lead in the second set, but their opponents closed the gap by a game twice during the set. However, the winners regained the upper hand to escape with victory.
Ranked 19th in the world in doubles, Dabrowski has just won her 14th career title in this specialty for women, the last three having been acquired in 2022, in Madrid and Tokyo.
In addition, it was a second career Grand Slam tournament appearance for the Ottawa native after Wimbledon in 2019.
