Canadian Valérie Grenier won the Alpine Ski World Cup giant slalom on Saturday in Kranjska Gora, her second success on the world circuit almost a year to the day after her first victory, already in the Slovenian resort.
Fourth at the end of the first round, Valérie Grenier, 27, completed a second crazy round on her coach’s route to cross the finish line in the lead.
In the rain, she beat the Swiss Lara-Gut Behrami (2e at 37 hundredths) and the Italian Federica Brignone (+ 51 hundredths).
The Slovakian Petra Vlhova finished at the foot of the podium while the ski queen Mikaela Shiffrin, in difficulty from the first round, had to settle for an unusual ninth place, her worst result in giant since November 2022.
The American, five-time winner of the big crystal globe, nevertheless remains well ahead of the general classification with 929 points, ahead of Federica Brignone (697 points).
With a fifth giant podium (out of 6 races) this season, the Italian confirms her place as leader in the specialty.
The skiers continue on Sunday with a slalom.
