Canadian prospect Joshua Roy tops QMJHL scoring

(Sherbrooke) Montreal Canadiens prospect Joshua Roy ended the campaign on a high, reaching 50 goals and securing the Jean-Béliveau trophy.

Posted at 6:49 p.m.

Roy had a hat trick, Colin Ratt ended the debate in overtime and the Sherbrooke Phoenix beat the Val-d’Or Foreurs 7-6 on Sunday, the last day of activities in the QMJHL.

Roy became the fifth player on the Courteau circuit to score 50 goals this season, after William Dufour of the Saint-Jean Sea Dogs, Patrick Guay of the Charlottetown Islanders, Zachary Bolduc of the Quebec Remparts, and his teammate Xavier Parent.

Roy, a fifth-round pick of the Canadiens in the last NHL draft, took advantage of the afternoon to distance himself from Dufour and finish at the top of the QMJHL scorers. The 18-year-old Phoenix forward has 119 points in 66 games.

In this confrontation that meant nothing for the Phoenix, already assured of the first level of the Western Conference, the Foreurs erased a 4-0 and 6-4 deficit to force an extension.

Ratt, however, complemented efforts by Justin Gill and Tyson Hinds to close the books. It was a fifth victory in a row for the men of Stéphane Julien.

Hinds, Jaheem Lagacé and Anthony Munroe-Boucher also moved the ropes for the Phoenix. Ivan Zhigalov relieved Jakob Robillard and added the win to his record with 12 saves.

Alexander Mirzabalaev hit the target twice as Jérémy Michel, Kale McCallum, Justin Robidas and David Doucet added a goal each for the Foreurs. Tristan Boileau gave up seven times on 21 shots.

Ramparts 6–Oceanic 2

Zachary Bolduc recorded a fourth hat trick this season and the Quebec Remparts defeated the Rimouski Oceanic 6-2.

Bolduc and Théo Rochette both had four points and both ended their campaigns with 99 points.

Thanks to their series of six victories to conclude the season, the Remparts won the Jean-Rougeau trophy, awarded to the team that finished first in the overall QMJHL standings.

The Quebec team also secured the Robert-Lebel trophy, awarded to the team that has maintained the best goals-against average.

Sea Dogs 4–Wildcats 2

William Dufour scored his 56and goal of the campaign to confirm his title of top scorer in the QMJHL and the Saint-Jean Sea Dogs beat the Moncton Wildcats 4-2.

The Sea Dogs, who will host the Memorial Cup tournament, concluded the season by winning a 15and part right away.

The Sea Dogs got their hands on the Luc Robitaille Trophy, awarded to the team that kept the best goal average.

Titan 2–Islanders 10

Habs prospect Xavier Simoneau assisted in six of his own and the Charlottetown Islanders crushed the Acadie-Bathurst Titan 10-2.

The Islanders temporarily took first place in the overall QMJHL standings, but they were overtaken by the Remparts a few minutes later.

Cataracts 1–Olympics 4

Cole Cormier had a hat trick and added an assist to lead the Gatineau Olympiques to a 4-1 win over the Shawinigan Cataractes.

Armada 4–Voltigeurs 3 (Prol.)

Brayden Schmitt played heroes in overtime and the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada defeated the Drummondville Voltigeurs 4-3.

Mooseheads 5–Eagles 4

Jordan Dumais had a goal and three assists as the Halifax Mooseheads held off a comeback from the Cape Breton Eagles to win 5-4.

Saguenéens 3–Drakkar 8

Jacob Gaucher had a goal and three assists and the Baie-Comeau Drakkar grabbed the last playoff spot by crushing the Chicoutimi Saguenéens 8-3.

Huskies 0–Tigers 3

Nathan Darveau was perfect on 33 shots, but the defending President Cup champions Victoriaville Tigres were shut out of the playoffs despite a 3-0 win over the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.
