(Toronto) Summer McIntosh clocked the fastest time of the year for a 200-meter freestyle on Wednesday at the Speedo Canadian Open swimming event.
McIntosh, one of Canada’s top medal hopes for this summer’s Paris Olympics, finished in first place with a time of 1:54.21 at the Pan Am Sports Centre.
The 17-year-old from Toronto set his personal best time at this distance in freestyle at last year’s World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan.
Quebecer Mary-Sophie Harvey finished second (1:56.76), while Ontarian Julie Brousseau took third place on the podium (1:58.40).
Seven-time Olympic medalist, Torontonian Penny Oleksiak made a return to competition. She finished the race in sixth place, with a time of 1:59.75.
The Speedo Canadian Open Swimming Championship continues until Saturday.
The Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Trials will take place May 13-19 in Toronto.
