(Toronto) Rory McIlroy will try to win the Canadian Open for the third straight time next week in Toronto.
World number 3, the 34-year-old Northern Irishman is the headliner among the competitors announced Friday by Golf Canada and event sponsor RBC.
The PGA Tournament will take place June 8-11 at the Oakdale Club.
McIlroy won the Canadian Championship in 2019 and successfully defended his title in 2022. The pandemic caused the tournament to be canceled for two years.
We will also see defending US Open champion Matthew Fitzpatrick, eighth in the world, as well as other well-known Europeans such as Tommy Fleetwood, Shane Lowry and Justin Rose.
Note in a Canadian group of 20 golfers, the planned presence of Ontario’s Corey Conners, 29e in the world.
Also entered are Ontarian Mackenzie Hughes, as well as British Columbians Adam Svensson, Nick Taylor and Adam Hadwin. All are regulars at PGA tournaments.
The tournament has not been won by a Canadian since 1954.
Pat Fletcher then won at the Point Gray club in Vancouver.
Side concerts on Friday and Saturday will feature The Black Eyed Peas and Alanis Morrissette, respectively.
