Canadian Olympians to be vaccinated in Beijing

Canada’s Olympic and Paralympic athletes will need to be fully immunized to compete in the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in 2022.

The Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Committees (COC / CPC) announced on Wednesday that vaccination would be mandatory, saying the decision was made in concert with the board of directors and the athletes’ commission.

COC President and CEO David Shoemaker recalled that 840 coaches and staff traveled to Tokyo last summer without any positive cases being reported and that Canadian committees “want to do the same. thing in Beijing ”.

The US Olympic Committee announced a similar policy recently.

The Beijing Olympics will kick off on February 4. The Paralympic Games will begin on March 4.
