Canadian new vehicle sales | The Ford F Series and Toyota Corolla at the top of a bullish balance sheet

The year 2023 reconfirmed the rebound in Canadian sales of new vehicles after years numbed by a widespread shortage of auto parts.

According to figures compiled by the DesRosiers Automotive firm, light vehicles enjoyed an 11.8% increase in sales, while the reign of the Ford F Series and Toyota Corolla was renewed.

Ford F Series pickup trucks ended the year with total sales of 123,267 units in Canada in 2023, a gain of 7.4% compared to 2023. This is far ahead of Ram pickup trucks sold at 75,257 units ( -0.6%).

The Toyota RAV4, the only SUV in the top 5 light trucks, closes the podium with 74,668 sales during the year, a significant increase of 33.6%. Light trucks have also once again increased their market share, accounting for 85.8% of new vehicles purchased.

With its numerous versions, the Corolla has won the crown of the best-selling car in Canada in 2023.

As for traditional cars, the Toyota Corolla ended the year at the top of the charts with 28,260 units sold in 2023, down 14.6%. The Honda Civic crossed the finish line in second place with a number down by a few hundred units for 27,803 in total (-6.5%). The Hyundai Elantra, for its part, completed the annual marathon in third place with 20,459 sales (-16.7%).

In the top 5 in the car sales ranking, only the Mazda3 shows a gain (35.3%) with 10,880 units finding buyers. This once again confirms the constant loss of influence of the car due to buyer preferences, but also the erosion of manufacturers’ offerings.
