Canadian men’s soccer team falls one place

The Canadian men’s soccer team, which lost 4-1 to Japan in its only game this month, moved down one spot to 45e place in the FIFA world rankings.

Japan, who defeated the Maple Leaf representatives in Niigata on October 13 before whitewashing Tunisia 2-0 four days later, moved up one place to 18e position.

Argentina remains at the top of the rankings, ahead of France, Brazil, England and Belgium, in order. England closed the gap behind Brazil, who drew 1-1 at home to Venezuela and suffered a 2-0 defeat to Uruguay.

Panama moved up one place and is now at 44e rank. It is third in the CONCACAF region, behind the United States (11e place) and Mexico (12e). Canada is therefore fourth in the confederation, which brings together North America, Central America and the Caribbean.
