Canadian manufacturing sales held steady in November

(OTTAWA) Canadian manufacturing sales were flat at $72.3 billion in November, Statistics Canada said Monday.


Sales in the motor vehicle industry rose 12.7% to 3.9 billion, the federal agency said, fueled by a ramp-up in production at several assembly plants across the country.

Sales in the metal products industry rose 2.7% to 4.5 million in November, while those in primary metal manufacturing rose 1.7% to 5.7 billion.

Meanwhile, chemical industry sales fell 4.4% to 5.8 billion in November, as sales of pesticides, fertilizers and other agricultural chemicals fell 34.7% .

Sales in the petroleum and coal product industry fell 2.1% to $10.3 billion.

In volume terms, overall manufacturing sales rose 0.1% in November.
